RIFF09 Winners!

Better late than never, right?

In a small, quiet ceremony, which began with a lovely little brunch at The Kenmore Inn and then proceeded downhill in an impromptu parade of RIFF staff and guest attendees, led by Seth Casana and Elby Brass, RIFF brought its second annual film festival to a close at The Wallace Library Theater, by announcing the five winners of this year’s RIFFYs.

Here are the winners:

Best in Show … SHADOWS. Audience Choice … ONE TIME ME AND MY FRIENDS ROBBED A STORE. Best Documentary … BEYOND THE CALL. Best Short Film … THE PARADIGM SHIFT. Best Student Film … NUNNA MIA E LA BARCA.

The Fredericksburg Athenaeum and RIFF congratulate all RIFFY winners. Awards came with cash prizes and the fabulous trophy, produced by hand and donated by Bruce Blair.

Nearly 1000 seats were filled by this year’s attendees. The Library theater proved the perfect place for one of Fredericksburg’s most unique events offering community and access. Cheers to the CRRL!

RIFF ‘09: Day Three (and a half)

Day three of RIFF starts early, with the Angry Filmmaker workshop. If you want to go to this, you’ve probably already signed up for it, and I’ve already talked about it in a previous post, so let’s get on to Screening Block F, starting at 2:00 PM.

“Karate Film Cafe” is one of my favorite movies in the festival this year (of the ones I’ve seen). It is a light-hearted and very bright story of the people in three conjoined stores, a movie-rental business, a cafe, and a karate school. Paired with “Karate Film Cafe” is “A Place To Land,” a mystery to me at this point, and who doesn’t love surprises?

Screening Block G (5:00 PM) has another great full-length film, “Beyond The Call.” This is a documentary about three humanitarians, and really well done. The other three movies showing in this block are three shorts, ranging from horror to dramedy.

Screening Block H is a HUGE comilation of short films and student short films, and I’ll leave it at that. This will be a great break from the longer films earlier in the day, and just as much fun. Make sure you don’t miss one dramatic, comedic, or french minute of it. This is your last chance to see movies at RIFF ‘09!

After the movies are over what else would we do but party? At 11:00 PM Saturday night RIFF will have it’s after party at the Kenmore Inn.

On Sunday, August 30th, RIFF will be holding a brunch at the Kenmore Inn at 11:00 AM. This event is $30, or, if you have an all-access pass, just as accessible as everything else. At 2:00 PM is  the awards ceremony, where our winners are revealed in these categories: Best Short Film, Best Documentary, Best Student Film, Audience Choice, and Best of Show.

Be sure to get your all-access passes or individual tickets now, because the festival is only a day away.

Giveaway: RIFF All Access Passes

RIFF is coming up next week and we want to share the love with you. We’re giving away two pairs of RIFF All Access passes ($150 cash value). The All-Access pass is the best ticket for the festival, it includes access to all August 27-30 RIFF events and comes with a free lanyard, and access to the exclusive VIP Lounge.
